Falls are the leading cause of unintentional injuries for those over 60 years of age. Hundreds of Contra Costa County residents are seen in emergency rooms every year because of a fall, and often this means the senior can no longer live independently at home. The Fall Prevention program at Meals on Wheels Diablo Region works to reduce preventable falls through home safety modifications, specialized exercise classes, and educational outreach.
Meals on Wheels Diablo Region is a network of support services that helps seniors stay in their own homes. We are a full-service organization dedicated to improving all aspects of a senior’s life. We focus on whole person solutions, assessing a client's situation and then linking them to a broad network of support services from nutrition to social interaction to fall prevention and health and wellness. Throughout, our goal is to empower older adults to live independently and with dignity in their homes for as long as possible. Across programs, MOWDR supports over 6,000 seniors throughout Contra Costa County each year.
