Soroptimists’ 75th Anniversary
Soroptimist International of Martinez celebrated its 75th anniversary on November 13. The club was chartered on November 14, 1942, and has continuously contributed to the community through local service projects throughout the years. The members of Soroptimist are pleased to continue its tradition and mission to improve the lives of disadvantaged women and girls through programs that lead to social and economic empowerment.
The 75th anniversary was highlighted with the appearance of Founder Region Governor Pam Parker, who inducted their newest member, Christina Ratcliffe. Proclamations were presented by Mayor Rob Schroder and a representative from Contra Costa County Supervisors.
Members of the chartering club, SI Richmond, were present to help reminisce about events from 1942. On display were club scrapbooks from 1942 to present. The older three scrapbooks were on loan from the Martinez Historical Society, where they have been maintained since the early ‘90s. Former club presidents were in attendance, including Barbara Turcios, Harriett Burt, Dorothy Buffington, Beverly Gomer, Pat Eileen Fisher, and Judy Moon. Former Founder Region Governor Bobbi Enderlin of Benicia was also in attendance.
