Martinez Cemetery Tours

Mar 07, 2015 08:42AM ● Published by Jennifer Neys

A tour guide will introduce you to families with names you know and some you don’t. You will learn more about local war hero’s personalities, politicians and a most creative caretaker. This tour is to enlighten, not frighten! Wednesday, March 25 10:00-12:00pm.
In this cemetery were laid to rest many early pioneers of Contra Costa County. Many were drawn to California by gold, but fulfilled their dreams for a better life in other ways. The first recorded burials at the old cemetery, entered in the City of Martinez death register, was 1854. However, it is believed that burials occurred as early as 1851.
Donations will go to the Cemetery for improvements. The City of Martinez will be updating the list of people buried at the Alhambra Cemetery. Needed are the correct spellings and anyone known to be omitted from our records. Please call Patty Lorick at 925-372-3551 to add or correct a name.
Call 372-3510 to reserve your spot, space is limited. No Children, please. Pre-registration is required. For more information, contact Robin Agostino, Martinez Recreation Services (925) 372-3510.
